As the title would indicate, I tried chocolate ice cream in the ice cream maker the other day.
The recipe says to use 8 ounces of chocolate. It also says to heat the milk in a pan, mix the chocolate and sugar in a food processor until chopped very fine, then add the hot milk and mix in the food processor some more. I didn't want to break out the food processor because I felt lazy. Perhaps this disregarding of the instructions was not the best idea, as the final product has little specks of unmelted chocolate all through it. It still tastes good, but the texture is just a wee bit off.
Also, my choclate was in the form of chocolate chips, not 1-ounce blocks, and I don't have a kitchen scale, so I just guessed at the amount of chocolate.
My version of the recipe is below. But make sure to get all your chocolate chips melted better than I did.
Easy Chocolate Ice Cream
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pour the milk and chocolate chips into a small saucepan. Heat, stirring constantly, until chips are melted and completely blended into the milk. Remove from heat and add sugar, stirring until dissolved. Let mixture cool completely. Combine mixture with cream and vanilla. Chill for around 30 minutes. Put in ice cream maker for about 30 minutes.
